Kien Giang to host National Tourism Year 2016

The National Tourism Year 2016 themed “Exploring the southern land”, will be held in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced at a press conference in Hanoi on November 16.

A wide range of cultural activities will be organized in Kien Giang and its neighboring cities and provinces in the Mekong Delta, and in Hanoi, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Lao Cai during the year, such as the death anniversary of Hero of People’s Armed Forces Phan Thi Rang; the 280th anniversary of Chieu Anh Cac Literary Coterie; the 10th culture, sports and tourism day of Khmer ethnic people in Kien Giang; Nghinh Ong Festival and others.

The national-scale event will help raise the awareness of local authorities and people on tourism development, natural resource protection and sea-islands tourism development. It is also a chance to promote tourism industry and introduce the beauty of the country and Kien Giang, Deputy Minister Vuong Duy Bien said at the meeting.

Kien Giang province has currently more than 300 hotels offering over 7,500 rooms, meeting demand for visitor accommodation.

The provincial authority has improved urban infrastructure and utilities; upgraded key tourist areas; as well as developed high-quality tourism products to attract more visitors at home and abroad.
