Until November 28, OLP’19 received registration of nearly 700 students and 150 trainers from 71 universities and colleges. Similarly, there were around 486 students in 30 teams formally signed up for the PROCON Contest in 5 categories.
The preliminary round of ICPC Asia Da Nang welcomed 112 teams, 95 of which are Vietnamese. The other 17 international teams come from Japan, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, China, and Myanmar. Many of these students have won Global ICPC medals, international IT Olympic medals, or have spent their interned in leading companies such as Facebook, Google, and Garena.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Information Technology Association Nguyen Long shared that this is the first year that Vietnam has held a such a 1vs1 programing contest in accordance with Japanese standards. Competitors will fight online on automatic systems and will be marked on-site to announce results as soon and fair as possible.
According to the organization board, the cooperation between PROCON Contest and ICPC Asia Contest has shown the integration capability and maturity of young Vietnamese ICT people since both focus on programming skills, team work, and language ability.
To be well prepared for the contests, the HCMC University of Pedagogy has gathered its talented IT students along with capable students from other departments for a 3-month training session. As said by Tran Phuc Khang, one of the six contestants from this university, this event will help him to obtain essential skills and experience for further reference when he becomes a teacher and aid his own pupils. He added that this year’s contest will be more stable thanks to high quality servers, while his opponents are better as well, making the competition more challenging.
The ICPC Asia Da Nang 2019 will select suitable candidates for the global ICPC final round held in June 2020 in Moscow of Russia.
