Prime Minister to attend first Vietnamese technology business development forum

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam announced yesterday at the press conference that his ministry is going to hold the first national forum on developing Vietnamese technology companies with the participation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 9.

The forum, themed ‘Aspiration – Vision – Development Orientation for a Stronger Vietnam’, will take part at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. It is expected to be the initiative for the growth of the Vietnamese technology business ecosystem, hoping to transform the country into a technological giant.

Statistics from the Ministry of Information and Communications show that in 2018, the IT industry gained the total revenues of US$98.9 billion, an increase of 8 percent. Among them, the hardware sector earned $88 billion, the software sector $4.3 billion, the IT services sector $5.7 billion, and the digital content sector over $800 million.

The comprehensive export value of the whole industry reached $94 billion, enjoying a trade surplus of around $26 billion. This industry contributed nearly VND50,000 billion ($2.16 billion) to the national budget and offered more than 1 million jobs for local laborers.

Vietnamese technology enterprises are responsible for upgrading the position of the national economy in the global value chain and leading the digital transformation process nationwide in order to create a digital economy and society.

In particular, these companies are supposed to integrate various current technological products and solutions while designing new effective ones for the world.

According to Deputy Minister Tam, the theme of this forum, along with its motto ‘Make in Vietnam’, demonstrates the determination of the government in developing technology businesses.

The forum, which is a leading event for the IT field, will be an ideal place for sharing experience, inspiring IT people, and uniting the human resources of the whole country to make a difference.

The event is estimated to attract around 1,000 delegates who are leaders of the central and local authorities, along with hundreds of professionals and prestigious technology companies in Vietnam. It is sponsored by many businesses like VNG, VCCorp, VinSmart, Grab, CMC, MISA.

In the forum, participants will purposely discuss the four main topics of Vietnamese technology businesses tackle Vietnamese issues; Vietnamese technology businesses help the nation escape the middle-income trap; policies and solutions to develop Vietnamese technology businesses; and measures to connect technology businesses.

In the framework of the event, there will be an exhibition on prominent technological products and solutions that have great socio-economical potential in reality. This display is divided into five areas of Industry 4.0; Electronic Economy – Commerce – Finance; Transport – Construction – Environment – Natural Resources; Healthcare – Tourism; and Agriculture and Digital Transformation Process.
