International conference on astronomy launched in Quy Nhon

The international conference ‘Very High Energy Phenomena in the Universe’ was held yesterday at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICESE), located in Quy Hoa Valley of the central city of Quy Nhon.

International conference on astronomy launched in Quy Nhon

This is a conference organized on a regular basis of every 4 years by the Rencontres du Vietnam. The event this time, taking place from August 13 to August 18, 2018, attracts nearly 100 scientists from 16 nations to present their latest discoveries of the field.

The conference consists of plenary sessions and newest reports on various topics like Gamma Ray Astronomy, Cosmic Rays (including their origin and emission), Neutrino Astronomy (including high energy neutrino), Gamma Ray Bursts, Dark Matter, and Multi-messenger astronomy (including gravitational waves).

Research projects on ultra-high-energy cosmic ray (UHECR) and high-energy neutrino as well as new aspects on the observation of these phenomena will also be introduced during the 5 day event.

Since the fields of particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology are still quite new to Vietnam, Dr. Dumarchez Jacques (from the University of Paris 6 of France), representative of the Rencontres du Vietnam, hoped that this conference is able to provide an opportunity for young Vietnamese scientists and researchers to approach the latest knowledge as well as to present their own research results while exchanging their new ideas with their international counterparts.
