The province has so far cultivated over 42,000 hectares out of the plan of about 60,000 hectares this year. Of the flooded area, 1,200 hectares are in danger of totally complete loss and must be reseeded.

Besides flooding, heavy rains have created conditions for diseases and pests, such as yellow snail, rats and rice blast fungus, to ravage the rice crop.

The province has asked the agricultural industry to open sluice gate system to drain floodwater out of rice fields and limit damaged area. Farmers should regularly follow weather bulletins, temporarily stop cultivating now and wait until floodwater recedes.
