Fishing vessels asked to move out of tropical low-pressure zone

The National Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (NDPC) reported this morning it appeared three fishing boats near the center of tropical low-pressure zone through Movimar.

Mr. Hoang Duc Cuong, Director of the National Center for Hydro Meteorological Forecasting (the center) said at the meeting held this morning to deal with a tropical low-pressure system which is forecast to be developed into a storm, in Hanoi adding that from yesterday till June 4, many areas in the central and central highlands provinces were experiencing heavy rains.

In Ly Son Island, off the coast of Quang Ngai province, the strongest wind speed was at level 7 to 9 with torrential rainfall of 211mm.

This morning, tropical low-pressure centered in the west south of Hoang Sa Archipelago and was moving slowly at 10km per hour down 5 to 7km per hour.

The center said tropical low-pressure system may develop into a storm today, it is forecast to make landfall in Hainan Island tomorrow.

Of this, the northern region will be effected by storm; rains to heavy rains are predicted to hit the region. Some part of provinces in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue will experience heavy rains.

The center sent also its dispatch yesterday to effected-localities nationwide to ask authorities to call for fishing boats moving out of the dangerous zones.

However, yesterday Vietnam’s Fisheries said 11 fishing boats had not moved out of the dangerous zones, yet. This morning, 5 offshore fishing vessels in Binh Dinh province even kept moving to the center of tropical low-pressure. One fishing boats No. 96972 lost information yesterday and this morning the center kept in touch with it.

With the situation, director of the NDPC Mr.Tran Quang Hoai asked relevant agencies to keep in touch with fishing boats at sea during next 12 hours.

Mr.Hoai said the center cooperated Ly Son Island district’s chairman to have measures ensuring safety for 2,000 tourists, local students who are being stranded there due to heavy rains and strong winds.
