Excessive rainfall causes flooding chaos in Central region

The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center continuously issued warnings and notifications for flooding, downpour, landslide and flash flood risk situations in the Central provinces such as Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien- Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa after the prolonged heavy rains in recent days.

According to Vice Director of Department of the Binh Dinh province’s Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Huu Vui, the flood situation affected to traffic activities in some places of Tuy Phuoc and Phu My districts. 

In province of Nghe An, a long-lasting heavy downpour submerged many places from the nighttime of October 15 to October 16. Most of the roads in Vinh city such as Nguyen Van Cu, Le Hong Phong, Tran Phu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Dinh Cong Trang and Dang Thai Than have been inundated under 0.5- 0,7 meters of flood water, causing serious traffic congestion.

In order to absolutely ensure safety for pupils, many kindergartens, primary and secondary schools yesterday granted permission for a day off to nearly 7,000 pupils. 

Pursuant to the latest warning from the national weather agency, the North Central provinces and cities from Nghe An to Quang Tri is expected to brace for medium- heavy rainfalls today, especially the highest rainfalls in the southern parts of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, in areas from Thua Thien- Hue to Phu Yen will reach between 80 mm and 170 mm.

From tonight, density of rainfall in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri is forecast to reduce gradually.
