VN & Cambodia mark establishment of diplomatic ties

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee yesterday celebrated the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relation between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967- 2017).

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong highly appreciated outstanding cooperative results between the two nations in the fields of politic, economy, socio- culture, defense and security. 

In the recent years, the two- way trade turnover has reached around US$ 3 billion a year. 

Vietnam has contributed 184 its investment projects in the neighboring country with total capital of US$ 3 billion, and been listed top five foreign investors in Cambodia. 

Cambodia received around 960,000 Vietnamese travelers last year. 

Within eight consecutive recent years, Vietnam has recorded the largest number of tourists to Cambodia.

Chairman Phong strongly affirmed that the city makes efforts to promote the bilateral relationship between the two nations with an role of the leading economy, culture, science & technology center of the country. 

Until now, around 82 investment projects of the city enterprises have been licensed with total capital of nearly US$ 387 million. Of these, Cho Ray- Phnom Penh Hospital project was officially put into the operation in December, 2013 with its investment capital of over US$ 42 million. 

The city’s export turnover into Cambodia reached at US$ 328 million while the import turnover from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City was US$ 33 million last year.
The city has annually held Vietnam- Cambodia commerce & service exhibition at Phnom Penh and Battambang.
Cambodian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Im Hen strongly affirmed in his speech that good results of the two countries’ relationship within past 50 years was to thank to late Cambodian King Sihanouk and leaders of Vietnamese Party and Government.

Cambodian people always memorize assistance of Vietnamese soldiers and volunteers in Cambodian revolutionary career for escaping from Pol Pot regime in 1979.

Besides that, high- ranking leaders have paid mutual official visits in previous time as the official visit of Cambodian Prime Minster Samdech Techo Hun Sen to Vietnam in December, 2016; the state- level visit of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang to Cambodia in June, 2016; and the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Cambodia in April, 2017 …
