Vietnam’s information, communications sector posts turnover of $92.4 million

In a meeting to review its task in 2017 and implementation of new mission in 2018 held by the Ministry of Information and Communications yesterday, the information and communications sector reported total revenue of VND2,136,191 billion ($92.4 million).

Moreover, its growth rate is 9.34 percent compared to same period last year. The sector has handed over VND94,994 billion into the government’s budget equal to 104.3 percent of the plan.
According to the Ministry’s report, the sector’s revenue in press is estimated around VND13,912 billion meanwhile it is VND18,933 billion in publication; it is VND7,500 billion in payable television services; VND20,148 billion in postal services; VND352,198 billion in telecommunications; and VND1,723,500 billion communication technologies respectively.
In 2017, telecom firms have taken heeds to spend in infrastructure for its sustainable development in the contest of international integration. Giant firms such as Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Viettel, MobiFone have invested in upgrading cable and stations 4G to provide high quality services.
Despite difficulties, telecom firms over- fulfilled a plan to have high growth speed in comparison with 2016. Viettel’s revenue in 2017 has exceeded by 3 percent while VNPT’s turnover has surpassed 6.5 percent and MobiFone has also exceeded 0.1 percent.
For instance, Viettel posted revenue of VND49,500 billion while its pre-tax profit was VND43,936 billion and it paid VND41,142 billion. VNPT’s turnover has reached VND144,747 billion with its profit of VND5,.010 billion and its payment into state budget of VND4,116 billion. Meantime, MobiFone has had turnover of VND44,234 billion; with the after-tax profit of VND4,471 billion. Mobifone paid VND5,031 billion into the government’s budget.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam was present at the meeting.
