During the reception, Vinh stressed that the defence cooperation between Vietnam and the US has witnessed positive developments in various fields like exchange of delegations at all levels, war consequence settlement, training cooperation and sharing of experience in UN peacekeeping.

As one of the typical examples for the flourishing defence cooperation, the two sides have kicked off a project on dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa airport in the southern province of Dong Nai after the success of a similar project at Da Nang airport in the central region, he said.

The two sides also signed an agreement to implement the US-funded project to support people with disabilities in seven Vietnamese localities which were severely affected by Agent Orange/dioxin, he added.

For his part, Schriver conveyed US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper’s wish to visit Vietnam as soon as possible.

Through the visit, the two countries will offer many specific cooperation activities and programmes to deepen bilateral defence cooperation  in a practical and effective manner, in accordance with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, he said.
