Vietnam issues new individual health insurance cost

The government has issued the decree 146/2018 on new regulations of health insurance including cost.

As per the decree, cost of individual health insurance is equal to 4.5 percent of the basic monthly salary ruled by the Government and 4.5 percent of pension salary and disability annuity.
A person will enjoy exemption if all of his family members buy health insurance. The first person in the household will pay a sum equal to 4.5 percent of basic monthly salary; the health insurance pay of the second, the third, the fourth and the fifth in the family is 70 percent, 60 percent, 50 percent and 40 percent of the first one.
From December 1, 2018, poor families in disadvantaged districts will receive total support when buying health insurance while near-poor families receive 70 percent support from the Government.
Students and families working in the field of agriculture, forestry, fishery and salt making will receive 30 percent support for health insurance pay.
The present insurance coverage in Vietnam is 86. 9 percent, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the National Assembly’s working session on October 22. Many people buy health insurance in grass-root clinics whose treatment quality is improved. Seventy percent of patients receive treatment in local medical clinics.
The health sector has liaised with medicine suppliers to give information of over 20,000 medications. Patients in some localities have been provided electronic medical records.
