UK & VN to open new cooperation opportunities

Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan yesterday received Prince Andrew, Duke of York, the United Kingdom.

The visit is on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (1973- 2018), expressing respect of the British Royal Family and the Government of the United Kingdom to Vietnam as well as affirminng the bilateral cooperation ties between the nations.

City Party Chief Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed also his pleasure at the good relationship development during the previous time between the two nations. 

In the economic field, UK is considered as one of the city's largest investment and trade partners as last year, two- way trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and UK hit US$ 795 million.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City attracts around 146 projects from the British investors with total investment capital of US$ 556 million.  

The city leader also highlighted cooperation projects of the British businesses in the fields of infrastructure, energy, finance - banking, insurance ...hoping that Prince Andrew would continue to calling for the British businesses and investors to invest in Vietnam in general and HCMC in particular.

In the education sector, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan suggested Prince Andrew to support the city in high- quality labor resources training, offering more scholarships for Vietnamese students, introducing Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City tourism to the British people. 

In addition, Secretary Nhan hoped that Prince Andrew would call for British investors in the city’s creative urban projects, creative innovation start-ups in the city.

Prince Andrew highly appreciated start-up enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general.

The 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is a chance for the two sides to review the good cooperation in the past years. It is to open new cooperation opportunities between UK and Vietnam, added Prince Andrew.
