The South Korean Embassy in Vietnam has announced the changes following a substantial rise in illegal Vietnamese people in South Korea with around 2,000 cases and 100 cases a day in May.
In its written document to departments of culture, sports and tourism nationwide, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism informed changes to the five-year visa policy issued by South Korea for Vietnamese in three major cities of HCMC, Hanoi and Da Nang. The document attached 100 illegal cases a day in the foreign country.
The South Korea said that it has issued over 16,000 five-year visas for Vietnamese people with permanent and temporary residence registration in the three big cities.
However, around 2,000 people made use of the relaxed visa policy to stay illicitly in South Korea; accordingly, South Korea has had to issue five-year visas to those who have registered for permanent residence in the three major cities from June 10.
