Rains flood Hanoi’s many streets

Many streets in Hanoi this morning were flooded after heavy rains, resulting in traffic congestion while Hoa Binh Hydropower plant continued to open two floodgates to discharge water.

It is forecast the water level on Hong River continues to rise.

This morning, the Central Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control sent two dispatches to ask Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opening two floodgates to discharge water aiming to prevent floods and ensuring safety for the reservoir.

The committee said at 8am this morning, the level water of Hoa Binh plant was measured at 105.0m with the floodwater flowing into the reservoir at 9,217 cubic meters per second.

While extreme heavy rains are hitting the northern region, from last night till today, Hanoi continued suffering heavy rains causing flooding on the large scale in several part of the capital.

The areas of Van Quan, Ha Dong, My Dinh, Nam Tu Lien, Le Van Luong… would be inundated.

At present, the provinces of Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Son La, Ninh Binh are being hit by heavy rains.
