Ministry speeds up key traffic projects

The Ministry of Transport will start three traffic projects and finish four others as well as speed up major projects in the third quarter, according to participants at its meeting yesterday.

Specifically, the Ministry will start a bypass through Tan An city of the Mekong delta province of Long An in the National Highway No.1, a bypass around Ea Drang town of the highlands province of Dak Lak and upgrade the National Highway No.217 in the first phase.
At present, the Ministry is selecting contractors for these projects.
Additionally, Hung Ha Bridge, Da Nang – Quang Ngai Expressway, Ring belt in the west of Thanh Hoa city of the northern province of Thanh Hoa and Viet Tri – Ba Vi Bridge connecting the National Highway No.32 and the National Highway No.32 C are going to put into operation.
For Long Thanh Airport project, the joint venture comprising of firms from Japan, France and Vietnam (JFV) has taken up feasibility study for Long Thanh airport.
Apart from that, the Ministry is going to hold a meeting with the consulting board about the expansion plan for Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh; and then it will sent report of funding sources for the project to the Prime Minister.
For the high-speed North-South railway, participants discussed the necessity of the rail, technology selection, and speed.
Leaders of the Ministry has worked with local governments on the railway project, its maintenance and positions of railway stations.
