Hot weather causes record-breaking power consumption

According to the National Electric System Moderation Center, the whole country’s power consumption volume was at high record of 38,147 megawatts (MW) of electricity within recent days due to an impact of intense heat wave.

Violent scorching heat wave for temperature between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius across the Northern and Central regions is a reason to trigger record-breaking demand for energy for the first time in history.

Earlier, the power consumption volume reached 782.9 million kWh on June 21.

In order to ensure stable electrical supply, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has to regularly mobilize oil-fired thermoelectric systems with very expensive cost of VND 3,500-5,000 per kWh.

Amid the current intense heat wave, EVN recommends that offices and factories, and residents need to pay attention in safe power usage to save electricity.
