Deputy Minister works with firms to promote poultry export to EU

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam yesterday worked with Mr. Gabo, director of Dutch Jan Zandbergen Company and some businesses to promote poultry export the European Union (EU).

Mr. Gabo said that the EU with about 500 million residents in large demand of poultry consumption. At present, three countries are exporting poultry products to the EU including Brazil, Thailand and Ukraine.
Latest statistics show that this year the block is in the need of importing 950,000 tons of poultry, of these 85 percent is chicken breast. Mr. Gabo said that his company buys chicken from Thailand however the import from that market has been limited with 8 percent quota.
When the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) takes effect, import tariff will reduce to 0 percent. Vietnamese poultry products will not be limited with quotas. Therefore, he said that Vietnam should export processed chicken products to the EU.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed Jan Zandbergen Company and other EU firms to consider investment or joint venture with Vietnamese businesses to build slaughter houses and processing establishments according to EU standards to soon export processed chicken products of Vietnam to the EU.
