Taxi driver, transportation firm overcharging foreign visitor fined US$633.8

Traffic and transportation inspection teams in Ba Dinh District announced that they had fined a taxi driver VND4.7 million (US$200) for ripping off a foreign tourist and a transportation firm VND10 million for providing the taxi cab to the driver without logo.

At the traffic police station, Driver Dang Quoc Hung, 44, admitted overcharging British tourist John Hemery when he took him from Phung Hung Street in District Hoan Kiem to Hanoi Daewoo Hotel in Kim Ma Street in District Ba Dinh.
In addition to the fine of VND4.7 million inspectors also impounded Hung's vehicle for seven days and revoked his driving license for two months.
