Former AVG Chairman detained in bribery probe

 The Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security has decided to start legal proceedings against and detain Pham Nhat Vu, former Chairman of the Audio Visual Global JSC (AVG), for “giving bribes”.

The decision was made on April 12 in accordance with Clause 4, Article 364 of the 2015 Penal Code, the ministry said on April 13. 

It is part of an ongoing investigation into violations in the management and use of public investment capital causing serious consequences at MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation and relevant agencies.

The same day, the department decided to probe into Nguyen Bac Son, Truong Minh Tuan, Le Nam Tra and Cao Duy Hai for “receiving bribes” in the AVG case in line with Clause 4, Article 354 of the 2015 Penal Code. 

An arrest warrant was also issued for Vo Van Manh, Director of AMAX Valuation & Investment Consultancy Company Ltd, for “violating regulations on management and use of public investment capital causing serious consequences” as prescribed in Article 220 of the 2015 Penal Code. Manh served as an accomplice in this case. 

The above-mentioned decisions and orders were approved by the Supreme People’s Procuracy the same day, and implemented by the Investigation Police Department on April 12 and 13.

The department is mobilising forces to push ahead with the investigation into the case.
