An Giang handles 1,484 smuggled commodities, trade frauds

More than 1,484 smuggling and trade fraud cases were penalized from the beginning of the year, year-on-year increase of 5.5 percent, said People’s Committee of the Mekong delta province of An Giang.

Police force handled 1,484 smuggling and trade fraud cases with a total fine of VND58.25 billion (US$ 25.722 million). Additionally, competent agencies have prosecuted 22 criminals who illegally transported smuggled commodities and issued fine on 27 fake commodity sellers collecting VND516 million.
Moreover, competent agencies also collected VND790 million for violations in the fields of fertilizer, petroleum and seedling rice.
Along the border crossings between An Giang and Cambodia, 32 warehouses containing fake goods are allocated. From now on, consumption will increase to meet demand in the year-end; therefore, smuggling activities have risen.
Most of smuggled commodities into An Giang are tobacco, sugar, cosmetic, food, clothing, electronic goods, and furniture. Worse, smuggling of scraps including plastic bags, paper, iron has lately been increasing from Cambodia into Vietnam through An Giang. Simultaneously, foreign money has also been transported into Vietnam.
Deputy Chairman of People’s Committee Le Van Nung said from now to Lunar New Year, police force will increase control over smuggling of commodities through border crossings to prevent smugglers and trade fraudulent users from carrying out illegal activities.
