HCMC, UK cooperate in smart city building

A Memorandum of Understanding for a project of using smart ticket system for the city’s public transport network was signed between the HCMC’s Department of Transport, the municipal Construction Department and the Consulate General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh City on July 17.

Ian Gibbons, Consul General of the UK to Ho Chi Minh City said that the agreement will contribute to the implementation of the project to build HCMC into a smart city, solve major problems of traffic congestion and flooding as well as help the southern economic hub to develop sustainably.
The signing also strengthen friendship relations and cooperation between the two countries, he added.
The Consul General of the UK hoped there will be more cooperation projects between the UK and HCMC.
For his part, Vice chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC Ngo Minh Chau highlighted Mr Ian Gibbons’ contribution to the cooperation development between the two countries. The city will create advantages in carrying out of the agreement, setting the path for other projects.
He hoped that the UK will support the city in building HCMC into the country’s first financial center and developing it into a center for creativity and innovation.
