HCMC spends VND 1,300 bln for the poor on Tet

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed the municipal People’s Committee to spend VND1,300 billion to support poor households and welfare beneficiaries on the upcoming lunar New Year.

Accordingly, disadvantaged people, people credited with revolutionary services, poor workers and state officials will receive Tet gifts worth from VND1.1 – 3 million of each.
Meanwhile the HCM City Labor Union has coordinated with enterprises to offer 37,000 free bus tickets to emplyees on Tet holidays.
The annual program has supported more than 40,000 poor workers in Ho Chi Minh City’s industrial parks and export processing zones, aiming to help them return home as the Lunar Year of the Goat comes near-end, over the past several years.
The City’s Labor Union will also organize many cultural activities for 600 poor workers’ famillies who cannot return to their hometowns for Tet.
The Vietnam Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City will spend VND2 billion to present Tet gifts to its disadvantaged members.
The Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union plans to offer 14,000 Tet gifts worth VND700,000 of each, give 4,000 free bus tickets, create 8,000 part time jobs during Tet, organize 50 locations selling price subsidized goods and 20 art programs to the poor and disadvantged students citiwide.
