The report was issued at a forum of seed management and the potentiality of plant varieties development within the exhibition framework of the seventh Ho Chi Minh City High-tech Agriculture.
The application of many new varieties into production along with the application of suitable farming techniques have contributed to improving the productivity and quality of vegetables with an increase of average yield by 10 percent a year.
Currently, there are 38 businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to produce and trade plant and animal varieties. In 2018, the city provided the large number of seeds for around 1.1 million hectares of cultivation and the agricultural production areas outside the city.
Additionally, the city also has 20 plant tissue culture organizations, providing about 16 million tissue culture seedlings per year, being mainly tropical orchids such as Mokara, Dendrobium, etc for the expansion of ornamental flower production areas such as districts of Cu Chi, Hoc Mon and Binh Chanh.
The Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center has coordinated with domestic and foreign units, experts to organize training courses on the application of high technology in selecting and creating plant varieties; coordinated with leading local experts to train nearly 100 its members on seeding techniques.
Besides that, the center also cooperated with Tsukuba University of Japan to train the propagation technology for nearly 70 students being scientific researchers of institutes and schools of the city.
