HCMC launches action month on food safety

The Steering Board on Food Safety and Hygiene yesterday launched the Action Month on Food Safety this year with the theme of “Say no to fake and substandard food to protect customers’ rights”.

Head of the steering board Pham Khanh Phong Lan said the action month begins from April 15 to May 15 adding that the steering board chose April to launch the ation month because this time is seasonal transition resulting in high risk of food poisoning; therefore people should take heed to food safety.
Relevant agencies must pay more attention to the problem especially tighen control over school and company canteens.
During the action month, the board will focus on increasing information of food safety to raise producers and consumers’ awareness of the problem. Above all, the board will highlight the role of organizations and individuals in follow the regulations of food safety.
Alongside with this, the board will enhance supervision by paying visits to food manufacturers and businesses; what is more, it will check in major cities to reduce cases of food poisoning and substandard food which would have long-term consequences on people's health.
The name of violators will be posted in the board’ portal, said Ms. Lan.
