HCMC focuses on urban regeneration along canals

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has asked district authorities to regenerate urban areas especially those alongside canals.

Specifically, regarding urban renewal in district 3, the city People Committee required the Department of Planning and Architecture, relevant agencies and the HCMC Institute for Development Studies to draw urban design along Nhieu Loc- Thi Nghe canal.
This design aims to regenerate the area around the canal synchronously and connect with the city’s general renewal plan.
The committee noticed that the department should take heed of function of land use and canal sections. For instance, some canal sections will be used for tourism; accordingly, the Department ought to design bridges with proper height for boat passing through.
Moreover, the department must keep greenery space, historic and cultural sites when undertaking urban construction.
Additionally, the city also asked the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and responsible agencies to make proposal on a forum for land management along canals.
