HCMC flower, book streets open ringing lunar New Year

Leaders of the National Assembly, the Government and HCMC have cut the ribbon to open Nguyen Hue flower street and the book street in Nguyen Hue-Mac Thi Buoi street to ring Tet holiday (the Lunar New Year festival) in the city's District 1.

Last night, National Assembly chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former President Truong Tan Sang, standing deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, HCMC Party Chief Nguyen Thien Nhan, HCMC People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong and former city leaders offered flowers to Uncle Ho at the President Ho Chi Minh Statue in front of the city People’s Committee headquarters.
Right after that they cut the ribbon to open Nguyen Hue flower street, a traditional activity of HCMC to welcome the Lunar New Year.
This year, the flower street is themed “Ho Chi Minh City- Steady Rise” and designed with 150 flower species, stretching along 720 meters and comprising three parts with topics namely Characterful Humane City, Smart City and Innovative District.

Six piggy banks are placed along the flower street for tourists to donate for poor students in HCMC. After the flower street closes, organizer Saigontourist Company together with Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in HCMC will transferred the entire donated money to studious poor students through scholarships, awards, notebooks, pens and uniforms.
The flower street will open until 10 p.m. on February 8, 2019 (the fourth new year day in the lunar calendar).

Previously, Book Street 2019 opened in Nguyen Hue-Mac Thi Buoi street with the attendance by HCMC Party Leader Nguyen Thien Nhan, HCMC People’s Committee chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong and head of the Party Committee’s Propaganda and Education Department Than Thi Thu.
The book street introduces to the public beauties of old Saigon, underlining the importance of reading culture.
After the opening ceremony, the organization board awarded good spring newspaper cover designs.
