As per the plan, six industrial slaughterhouses will be operational as of September, 2019 capable of culling up to 12,000 hogs a day. Moreover, small-scale private abattoirs must stop operation.
Additionally, slaughterhouses for buffaloes, sheep, and goats with capacity of 50 heads of buffalos per hour, 200 goats per hour will be opened according to the plan.
Cu Chi District will have two industrial abattoirs to replace An Nhon facility, also the Department’s plan.
However, by October, 2019, the city has had three industrial facilities including Vietnam's leading foodstuff processor Vissan, Xuan Thoi Thuong, and Sagri.
Of the three facilities, Xuan Thoi Thuong and Sagri plants are not fully operational as designed.
The Department said complicated paperwork has delayed construction of slaughterhouses.
