Vietnam adds one more five-in-one vaccine into expanded immunization program
DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae B (HIB) is manufactured by India. It is similar to vaccine ComBE Five which has been included in the national expanded immunization program.
According to the Ministry, the addition of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine in the program aims to satisfy people’s demand of vaccine curbing shortage of vaccine.
In these above-mentioned provinces, the new vaccine will be regularly used on babies from two months up in these localities being short of vaccine ComBe Five.
The use of the new vaccine is under close watch and its results will be reported to the Ministry in June. It is scheduled that the new vaccine will be used in the end of 2019 in other localities in the country.
In reality, the central province of Thua Thien – Hue has used the new vaccine from May 16. By May 24, approximately 1,280 kids in 59/152 communes have been injected with DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine and no case of vaccine incident has been reported.
Before Vietnamese Ministry of Health approved the India-made vaccine to be circulated in the country, DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine has been used in India from 2010 as it was tested by the World Health Organization in the year.
So far, 600 million doses of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine has been used in 79 nations including India.
