Up to 90 percent of lung cancer cases link with smoking: Ministry

According to Vietnamese Ministry of Health at a yesterday meeting, cigarette smoking explains almost 90 percent of lung cancer risk in Vietnam.
The Ministry and the Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund yesterday organized a meeting in response to the World No Tobacco Day (May 31) and the National No Tobacco Week (May 25-31) with the theme “tobacco and lung diseases”.
Moreover, smoking is culprit of non-communicable diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Viet Tien called for leaders of ministries, agencies and cities, provinces to continue directing implementation of tobacco prevention regulations as well as advised people to giving up smoking for their own health and family members’.
Globally, passive smoking is also the cause of 165,000 lung disease-related deaths in children under five.
