Renal transplant on kid from brain-dead donor for first time

The Children Hospital No. 2 in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday announced a successfu renal transplantation on a kid from a brain-dead deceased donor for the very first time.

The infirmary had worked with Cho Ray Hospital and Hanoi-based Viet- Duc ( Vietnam – German) Hospital to carry out a kidney transplant on a 15-year-old teen from the highlands province of Lam Dong who are suffering chronic kidney failure at the final stage.
He has put in dialysis since October, 2017. 
The donor is a brain-dead man.
This is the first time Vietnam has performed kidney transplant from brain-dead donor.
Director of Children Hospital No.2 Dr. Trinh Huu Tung said that the hospital was informed on December 9 that a brain-dead deceased donor wished to donate his kidney before he died; accordingly, the hospital was rush to finish necessary procedure as per the regulation for the transplant.
The hospital phoned kids' families in the waiting list to take them to hospital for testing and test result has shown that the teen in Lam Dong is the most suitable one for the transplant.
Kidney of the 43 year old donor in Hanoi was transported from Viet-Duc Hospital to Ho Chi Minh City via air for the transplant.
With the assistance of medical workers of Cho Ray Hospital, the sis-hour surgery was  successful. However, the kid patient is still being treated in the intensive care unit.
Presently, he was stable and can urinate. He can walk after six month
Though he is 15 years old, his constitution is like an adult; therefore, he is suitable with the donated kidney, said Professor Tran Dong A.
