Health experts plan to vaccinate people in diphtheria-infected area in Dak Lak

Following the death of a five-year-old girl, the Health Department in the highlands province of Dak Lak is planning to provided vaccine against diphtheria to 8,000 people in the infected area.

Of 34 people who had been isolate, three of the were positive for the fatal disease while the remaining are negative, said Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine Dr. Pham Van Lao yesterday.
He said that three diphtheria patients are in good condition.
Dr. Lao said that after the discovery of the death of the five-year-old girl, the local health authority has isolated and disinfected the infected area where the girl lives.
Moreover, the local health authority gave drugs to 1,000 people living near the girl’s house. Additionally, medical workers made a vaccination list on 7,000 people aged from 7 to 45 in Ea H'dinh commune to curb the disease.
