From now on, school curriculum in the central province of Khanh Hoa will include lesson chapters on Vietnam's Sea and Islands, with pictures and documents showing the country’s sovereignty.
Talks on the country’s Sea and Islands were earlier part of general knowledge, but now as part of school curriculum, lessons will include chapters with pictures and documentary proof of the country’s historical sovereignty.
In these lessons, students will watch picture and video clips of fishermen working on the Islands that belong to Vietnam and of soldiers who guard these areas day and night.
These soldiers too are ordinary citizens akin to students or their families.
For the 2012-2013 academic year, nearly 700 students of Le Quy Don Gifted Senior High School in Nha Trang City of Khanh Hoa Province will enjoy history classes in which they will learn about the country’s Sea and Islands in general and the province in particular.
Such lessons will be included in history and geography classes as well as in extracurricular activities aimed to help students understand better the concept of sovereignty.
Truc Linh, an 11th grader, said such lessons with stories, animated pictures and films help students comprehend more easily. With knowledge of the sovereignty of the nation, students will feel pride in their homeland and sense the importance of the Islands and the great responsibility in protecting them.
Nguyen Thi Kim Thu, deputy headmaster of the school, said lessons on the Islands and Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes are compiled carefully with documents, maps and research data as well as included with extracurricular activities and competitions.
Le Tuan Tu, director of the Department of Education and Training in Khanh Hoa Province, said the sector has instructed teachers the teaching methodologies on the matter so that students can understand the sovereignty of the country.
Lessons are related to responsibility of the younger generation to protect their sovereign legacy.
