More than 32,000 students sit English Champion 2019 first round

More than 32,000 students countryside officially took English Champion 2019 first round yesterday.

This year, in its sixth year, candidates of 62 over 64 cities and provinces registered for the contest. The two big cities Hanoi and HCMC has large rate of participants with 29 percent and 51 percent respectively.
Several provinces have seen a dramatic rise in the number of candidates including the northern provinces of Lao Cai, Phu Tho with 1,703 and 998 respectively while 600 students and 544 students in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue and Hau Giang respectively sat the contest.
Amongst 1,473 primary and junior high schools taking part in the contest, Primary Nguyen Minh Quang in HCMC had 465 participants, Junior High School Le Hong Phong and Ngoi Sao in Hanoi had 452 and 418 candidates.
4,000 candidates will be selected for the second round and 500 for the third round. Just ten students will enter the final round to have five champion winners.
School managers and parents registered for students and children both to find opportunity for the champion and check their children’ progress.
In the first round, students will do at home with online tests on knowledge of Maths, Science, Society and reading and listening skills. Primary students did 40 questions in 45 minutes and junior high schoolers did 50 questions in 60 minutes.
The annual nationwide contest was for fourth to eight graders. It was a chance for students to self assess their ability. With the theme “iGen – We are the definers”, it oriented toward iGen generation or students were born from 1995 and later.
