Dong Nai launches pilot sex education program for children aged 3-5

The southern province of Dong Nai announced to a pilot sex education program for preschoolers aged 3 to 5 to help them to learn how to protect themselves from sexual assault.

The People’s Committee of the southern province of Dong Nai yesterday had a working session with the Institute of Researching Educational Sciences (IRES) on the program for children to prevent sexual abuse against them.
IRES representative said that the program aims to provide the children with sex awareness and knowledge and self defense skills with targeted teachers, parents and children.
Participating teacher and parent will be trained about knowledge of sex education scientifically as well as methods to give the education to children, thus ensuring their smooth coordination in the work.
Meantime, kids will learn how to protect themselves from sexual assaults.
School managers said that they face difficulties in implementing the program such as working parents having no time and paying less attention to sex education.
Speaking at the working session, Deputy Chairman of Dong Nai People’s Committee Nguyen Hoa Hiep said child sexual abuse is a concerned matter; accordingly the Department of Education and Training was assigned to give advice for the program implementation.
The program will be widely included in curriculum in school if there are good feedbacks about it, said Ms. Hiep.
