41 Vietnamese applicants win Australia’s Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships
The Australian Government today announced the recipients of Australia’s Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2018. Of 65 countries receiving the awards, Vietnam has received 13 of the prestigious PhD awards, the highest number for any country and 41 scholarships overall, the second highest number. This is a testament to the caliber and initiative of Vietnamese applicants.
The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are internationally competitive scholarships which promote knowledge, education links and enduring ties between Australia and its neighbors. Categories include vocational education and training, professional development, research fellowships and postgraduate Masters and PhD scholarships.
In making the announcement, the Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham said: “Students will be given real world practical study experience to assist with their qualifications and help them build global skills and perspectives.”
Around 4,000 applications were received from over 125 eligible countries. The applications were assessed on merit and there were no country quotas. Vietnam received 41 scholarships, consisting of 13 PhD scholarships, one Masters scholarship, 10 research fellowships, 13 executive fellowships and 4 vocational education and training scholarships.
This is a significant achievement for Vietnam, reflecting the quality of Vietnamese applications and the high level of interest in studying in Australia.
Many of the scholarships are in the fields of education, agriculture, engineering, health, information technology, management, society and culture and natural and physical sciences across 26 Australian universities.
Endeavour Scholarship and Fellowship recipients will gain access to leaders in their field of study, business and government, and will develop ongoing education, research and professional linkages that often last well beyond their program. They will also be able to share in experiences to deepen their understanding of another culture.
Applications for the 2019 round of Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships will open in early April 2018 and close on 30 June 2018.
