These solar power plant projects receive a power buying price of US$9.35 cents per kWh in 20 years in accordance with the Decision 11/2017/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister. Of which, 72 solar power plants are under control of the National Power System Moderation Center (A0) with total capacity of 4,189 megawatts and 10 are under control of regional power system moderation levels with total capacity of 275 megawatts.

It is expected that from now to the end of this year, A0 will continue to energize and put into operation 13 more solar power plants with total capacity of 630 megawatts, increasing the number of solar power plants in the whole network to 95.

With a large number of solar power plants going online in a short period of time, the operation of power system  has faced several challenges due to solar power’s dependence on the weather. Besides, intensive development of solar power projects in some provinces, such as Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Dak Lak, has caused overloading on 110kV and 220kV power grids in these aforesaid regions.
