Explosive growth of Airbnb, home-sharing services in Vietnam

The Airbnb and home-sharing services have celebrated a new milestone with over 40, 804 active Airbnb listings in the country since the beginning of the year compared to around 1,000 in 2015, according to Homesharing Vietnam - Insights Report released by Outbox Consulting, a tourism development consulting firm at a meeting.

The Outbox Talks meeting on investment and management of home-sharing services was organized by the Tourism Magazine in Ho Chi Minh City and relevant agencies
The services not only help homeowners to raise their income but gain profit. A homeowner in HCMC can earn averagely VND11.5 million ($492.2) a month in peak season and VND8.3 million monthly in off-peak season.
There has been explosive growth in major cities such as HCMC, Hanoi and Da Nang where the number of international visitors arrivals has surged in recent years.
HCMC, Hanoi and the central city of Da Nang reported annual growth of 97 percent, 112 percent and 111 percent rise in the number of accommodations available for rent on Airbnb. Host can offer private rooms, entire home or sharing rooms.
The Outbox Consulting said that many people have reportedly bought apartments in big cities like Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC to rent out rooms for short-term stays, which has generated 20-50 percent higher incomes than long-term contracts.
The services is mushrooming in well-known tourism spots such as Sa Pa in the northern province of Lao Cai and Ha Long in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
Robust growth in the lucrative market also triggers challenges and difficulties that landlords and local administrations
