Consumption of pork remains poor

Demand for pork weakened, causing an abundance in the inventory of processed products made from pork. This has urged food manufacturers to reduce output and balance production, leading to a drop of 3.19 percent over the same period last year in the manufacturing index of meat and meat products processing and preservation industry.

At the present, in order to ensure supply of all kinds of meat in the market, large enterprises, including Vissan, San Ha and Saigon Co.op, have negotiated and have had solutions to import frozen pork and chicken in case there is strong fluctuation in the market. At the same time, they have been ready for cold storage but have not promoted yet as prices have not fallen much.

Meanwhile, enterprises have also been ready to increase their poultry flocks and production of poultry meat so as to timely make up for a shortage of pork.
