Vietnam Airlines granted license to operate Vietnam-US flights

National carrier Vietnam Airlines has been official granted a permit by the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate passenger, cargo and airmail flights between the country and U.S. destinations.

As per the license, the national carrier is allowed to operate flights between Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and the U.S. cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco (California); New York (New York), Seattle (Washington) and Dallas - Fort Worth (Texas).
The transit flights will include stops in Taipei ( Taiwan – China), Osaka and Nagoya (Japan).
Additionally, Vietnam Airlines is allowed to operate flights to the Canadian cities of Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto via points in the U.S.
Moreover, the national carrier is licensed to a codeshare and charter Vietnam-U.S. flights.
Until now, Vietnam Airline is the first Vietnamese airline to seek authorization to operate flights to the U.S. This is the national carrier’s important progress.
In addition to the license granted by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Vietnam Airlines will continue to apply for the Federal Aviation Administration’s permit,  the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s permit, the National Transportation Safety Board’s permit and other authorized agencies before operating official flights to the US.
In early 2019, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that Vietnam complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety standards and has been granted a Category 1 rating.
