In a meeting with the provincial People’s Committee, Director Hang said the Department will make a plan to collect fee for preservation activities from tourists in Con Dao Island.
The director explained people flock to Con Dao and drop litter everywhere in the beautiful island; accordingly, the authorities will collect fee for environment protection as well as restoration of historic sites in poor repair and building public construction to serve travelers.
According to the Tourism Department, several historic attractions in Con Dao sell tickets to travelers. Subsequently, the Department agreed with the authorities to sell tickets to tourists who want to visit Con Dao just one time.
After buying ticket, tourists can visit any places in Con Dao Island even the cemetery in spiritual tours whereas locals and laborers in Con Dao are entitled not to pay the fee.
From the beginning of the year, there has been a dramatic increase in tourists to the Island. 38,686 visitors including more than 6,300 international holiday-makers visited the island, grossing total revenue of over VND193.8 billion ($8,355,864).
However, just 68 accommodations with nearly 1,200 rooms can’t meet demand. Plus, the island is facing environment pollution and security disorder because a huge throng of tourist poured to the island.
