Ho Chi Minh City Cooperates With Malaysia in Tourism Development

“Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is ready to cooperate with Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism to develop tourism in Southeast Asia”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lap Quoc, director of HCMC Department of Tourism said in a meeting with Malaysian Minister of Tourism YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, who arrived in HCMC on July 5 for the campaign “Visit Malaysia Year 2007”.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lap Quoc, the two countries should cooperate to organize programs of linking tours to other countries in Southeast Asia. The HCMC Department of Tourism has coordinated with Thailand, Lao and Cambodia to organize linking tours themed “Four countries, one destination”.

During the meeting, the Malaysian Minister of Tourism accepted an invitation to take part in the “International Tourism Fair and Good Dishes Festival” which will take place in August and November in HCMC.

On this occasion, the HCMC Department of Tourism agreed to coordinate with Malaysia to organize a “Malaysian Week” in HCMC.

In a press conference earlier, Malaysian Minister of Tourism YB Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Director General of Malaysia’s Tourism Kamaruddin Siaraf had announced the program “Visit Malaysia Year 2007” to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Malaysia 's Independence Day.

Hundreds of cultural activities such as art performances, street shows, parades, exhibitions of space, paintings and photos, carnivals and concerts with the attendance of famous singers from ASEAN member countries to commemorate Malaysia's Independence Day on 31 August.

Reportedly, Malaysia welcomed 16.4 million international visitors, of these there were 52,543 Vietnamese visitors in 2005 and attained a turnover of US$8 billion.
