HCMC welcomes first visitors in 2019

The Department of Tourism of HCM City and national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines co-organized a ceremony welcoming first visitors to the city in Tan Son Nhat International Airport on January 1.

A group of 6 international visitors arrived in Tan Son Nhat International Aiport on Flight No. VN30rom Frankfurt, Germany. Another group of 6 local visitors came to the city on Flight No.VJ633 from Da Nang City.
The first foreign visitors were presented free business class tickets from Vietnam Airlines. Vietjet Air offered first domestic passengers free business class tickets.
12 lucky visitors also got a tour visiting the city’s popular destinations from Tugo travel company.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy chairwomen of the municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, the city’s tourism sector will boost efforts to achieve its target of 8.5 million international visitors to the city in 2019, up 14 percent compared to the last year; and 32.7 million local tourists, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent; and earn VND150,000 billion, up 14.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
In 2018, Ho Chi Minh City received 36.5 million tourists, including 7.5 million international visitors, a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent.
The number of domestic tourists is estimated 29 million, up 16.07 percent compared with the same period of 2017.
The turnover from travelling, restaurant and hotel was VND140,000 billion, up 21.55 percent compared to the previous year, achieving 102 percent of target.
