HCMC focuses on developing waterway tourism

A discussion on developing waterway tourism was held in HCMC on July 28 by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council and the Radio Voice of Ho Chi Minh City People (VOH) with the participation of relevant departments and travel businesses.

According to Deputy chairman of the People’s Committee of district 9, Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, the distrit which is surrounded by Dong Nai and Tac river has a great potential for waterway tourism with fruit gardens along rivers and supplies fresh water for agricultural production.
Vice general director of Ben Thanh Tourist said that the city’s government should focus on improving a clean environment and the quality of tourist products, tighten control over sharp rise in the price to tourism products.
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa said waterway tourism will become a typical tourist product of Ho Chi Minh City. The Department of Tourism has proposed the municipal Department of Transport to grant license for vehicle parking, offering battery-operated electric vehicles at river bus stations and decorating landscape along the city canals.
The Transport Department has also coordinated with the Tourism Department to carry out infrastructure development programs and upgrade 11 piers in the city.
