As this reason, the local tourism industry has focused on promoting typical tourism products to attract connections, especially waterway tours as Cai Rang and Phong Dien floating markets, Con Son and Tan Loc islets and fruit gardens to create a unique value with other provinces and cities.
In order to make tourism become a key economic sector, the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has boosted cooperation programs and linking tourism development with the provinces and cities in the country and abroad, given priorities for luring investment projects of luxury tourism areas, introduced typical tourism products and expanded domestic and international tourism markets suited with its overall development orientations.
As expected, the city’s tourism industry strives for receiving 3.1 million arrivals with a turnover at VND 4,700 billion (US$ 201 million), an increase of 9.3 million visitors by 2020. By 2030, the tourism turnover will be expected to gain VND 13,200 billion (US$ 565 million).
Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho city Truong Quang Hoai Nam mentioned a strategy of community eco-tourism development through an example of British billionaire Joe Lewis returning to Can Tho and enjoying traditional cakes made by artisans in Con Son islet.
