Vietnam wins first medal at World Youth Taekwondo Championship

Vietnamese Taekwondo martial arts athlete Doan Thi Huong Giang won a bronze medal on March 8 in the women’s 52 kg category at the World Youth Taekwondo Championship, which kicked off March 6 in Tijuana, Mexico.

The medal is the first to be won at the competition by a Vietnamese athlete.

Giang defeated her rival Vognin Audrey from Polynesia, Bloemberg Mominique from Holland, and Blaviano Palge from the US. However, she failed to win against Lim So Ra from Korea in the semi-finals.

On the last day of the four-day event, Vietnamese athlete Nguyen Thi Thu Trang will compete in the women’s 46 kg category while Vo Minh Nhat will compete in the women’s 63 kg category.

The 8th WTF World Youth Taekwondo Championship this year drew a total of 696 athletes, including 300 females, from a record 97 countries.
