Vietnam top Group A with 3-1 victory

Vietnam produced their best performance so far at the ongoing Southeast Asian Football Championship to beat the Philippines 3-1 in the last group game, marching into the semi-finals as Group A winners.

Midfielder Ngo Hoang Thinh opened the scoring with a long-distance shot from 30 yards out in the first half. Vu Minh Tuan doubled the advantage five minutes into the second half before Pham Thanh Luong made it 3-0 after just 57 minutes.

The Philippines' only goal was scored by substitute Paul Mulders on the mark of the hour.

With the loss, the Philippines enter the last four as runners-up.

In the other match, Indonesia beat Laos 5-1 to leave the tournament.
