Vietnam sport team excess target of SEA Games gold medals

Vietnamese athletes yesterday experienced a successful competitive day when they won eight more gold medals in the categories of rowing, pencak silat, archery and taekwondo.

Diep Ngoc Vu Minh excellently knocked out Indonesian competitor Nur Awaluddin in the men’s tanding class A finals (45- 50 kg) to win a gold medal for Vietnam.

Hoang Thi Loan snatched the second gold medal in the women’s tanding class C (55- 60 kg).

On the same day, archer Nguyen Tien Cuong grabbed a gold medal with a score of 138- 137 in the men’s individual compound finals after beating Malaysian athlete Ruslan Zulfadhli.

Meanwhile, gold medal rain went to Vietnam’s rowing team when athletes brought four more gold medals for Vietnam in the women’s lightweight double (1000m), the women’s lightweight four (1000m), the women’s pair (1000m), and the men’s lightweight single (1000m). Particularly, Nguyen Van Linh brought the first gold medal with achievement of 3’33”13 in the men’s lightweight single (1000m).

Ta Thanh Huyen and Pham Thi Thao won one more gold medals in the women’s lightweight double (1000m); meanwhile, couple Le Thi An and Pham Thi Hue snatched the third gold medal in the women’s pair (1000m)

Another gold medal went to Vietnam in the women’s lightweight four (1000m).

In taekwondo, Ha Thi Nguyen defeated Brunei athlete Nurulain with a victory of 22- 0 in the women’s under 62 kg finals.

At the present, Vietnam Sport Delegation ranks the third position in medal tally with 73 gold, 51 silver, 57 bronze medals after Singapore with 82 gold, 72 silver, 98 bronze medals; and Thailand with 87 gold, 83 silver and 65 bronze medals. With the achievement, Vietnam exceeded the 28th SEA Games gold medal target.
