Special Olympics: Vietnamese athletes shine in Greece

More than 7.000 athletes from 180 countries gathered in Athens, Greece for the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens.

Vietnam’s Ngo Huu Ky Phong admirably won the 50 meter run with a 10.34 sec.
Le Thanh Cong from Ho Chi Minh City also brought home a gold medal for Vietnam in BC Bocce Singles competition.

Athletics: Duy Bang collects gold in Hong Kong

The athletic team from Ho Chi Minh City successfully won one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals in the 2011 Hong Kong Inter-City Athletics Championships.

Nguyen Duy Bang from Vietnam excellently won the high jump competition with a 2.07 meter result in the Men’s senior category. He also got a silver medal with a triple jump of 14.32 meters in the Men’s Open category.

Two bronze medals in 400 meter hurdles and 100 meter hurdles were successively awarded to Vuong Thien Nhan and Vo Van Hung.

Billiards: Vietnam’s only one player to compete in World Championship

The 2011 UMB World Three-cushion Championship will be held in Lima, Peru from Jul 12-16 by the Union Mondiale de Billard or UMB.

48 UMB's top-ranked billiard players from 25 countries will compete in this tournament. The champion will receive EUR4.800.

Vietnam’s Ma Xuan Cuong, one of the nine chosen Asian competitors, has to defeat the other two opponents in group B, the world no.1 player, Netherlands’ Jaspers Dick and 52nd-ranked Sweden’s Nilsson Michael to enter the next round.   

In the UMB’s World Ranking last updated on Jul 4, Ma Xuan Cuong now stands at 45th place.
