Tran Dai Nghia Award honors 4 excellent scientific projects

The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology yesterday presented the Tran Dai Nghia Awards 2019 to the team and individual owners of the four most prominent research projects. The ceremony was held in Hanoi.

In the award ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stressed that Tran Dai Nghia Awards is a meaningful award to evaluate scientific researches as well as appreciate the contribution of intellectuals to the national protection and development.

The award takes after the name of Tran Dai Nghia, the recognized Vietnamese scientist overcoming obstacles to conduct research for the construction and growth of the country.

Professor – Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, stated that all projects nominated for this year’s awards belong to the nine natural science and technology fields. They are owned by scientists either working in Vietnam or in other countries.

After careful consideration, the judge board selected the four outstanding ones that have been internationally published or have owned an intellectual property right and are now widely implemented in the community.

The first project to receive the award is ‘Setting Up a Manufacturing Process for Bird Flu Subtype A/H5N1 Vaccine in Vietnam’ (by Professor Le Tran Binh, Associate Professor Dinh Duy Khang from the Biologic Technology Institute, and Dr. Tran Xuan Hanh from Vietnam Veterinary Products Joint Stock Company).

The second one is ‘Researching on Special Material to Create 85mm-Bullet-proof Suits for Soldiers’ (by Dr. Nguyen Van Thao from the Hi-tech Development Center, Associate Professor Doan Dinh Phuong from the Materials Research Institute, and Dr. Le Van Thu from the Authority of Equipment and Logistics under the Ministry of Public Security).

The third winner of the award is the project ‘Researching and Developing Treatment Technology for Hazardous Industrial and Medical Waste’ (by Associate Professor Trinh Van Tuyen, engineer Mai Trong Chinh from the Environmental Technology Institute, and Dr. Nguyen The Dong from the General Department of Environment under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment).

The award is also delivered to the project ‘Research on Breeding Rice Seeds for the Mekong Delta Region’ by Professor Nguyen Thi Lang from the Mekong Delta Hi-tech Agricultural Research Institute.
