The Kovalevskaia Award for Greatest Individual was presented to Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Director of the Vietnam National University of Agriculture. Born in 1974, Dr. Lan has conducted various impressive researches, including 105 scientific announcements as well as several agricultural products like the kit to quickly diagnose Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) in pigs, the bio-bedding for pig raising.

The Kovalevskaia Award for Greatest Team was delivered to the female scientists in the Environment Technology Faculty under the Environment Department of the Hanoi University of Science (a member of Vietnam National University – Hanoi). They have earned achievements in researching on waste treatment and environmental quality evaluation. These are successfully implemented in such projects as ‘Constructing sewage treatment facility for dyeing water’, ‘Building a synchronous system to treat groundwater with high level of arsenic’, ‘Using bio methods to treat sewage’.

In this event, the Kovalevskaia Scholarship 2018 was given to 3 excellent female students to promote their passion in scientific research.

Member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat cum President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man stated that gender equality in the science community has been more focused in Vietnam. However, due to certain insensitive policies as well as outdated and insufficient research equipment, female scientists in the country are still encountering various obstables. He hoped that all domestic female scientists could try their best to overcome those difficulties while the public should raise their own awareness on the valuable contribution of woman scientists nationwide.

The government is adjusting any unsuitable policies to give more favorable conditions for all females, especially scientists, to contribute to the development and gender equality.
